November 2023 Newsletter

C.U.R.E. is here.

From the day of diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond:
The support doesn’t stop when the treatment stops.

And we are so thankful for our Friends who make our support possible.

Your Kindness Makes a Difference!

We continue to be overwhelmed by the support of our Community, all so we can help our Families. We do our best to meet the needs of our Families and cater the support we provide to them based on their needs at the time. This past quarter, we provided the following support:

  • Added a snack cupboard at Golisano Children's Hospital with snacks to help with the steroid hunger hits our Kiddos (or mom or dad need a snack)

  • Provided over $4,000 in emergency financial assistance to our Families

  • Coordinated and provided professional family portraits for 18 Families

  • Provided 150 tickets to C.U.R.E. Families for the Red Wings Survivors' Night Game

  • Celebrated 4 End of Chemo Bell Ringings

  • Gave Families a fun night out at the Drive In at Silver Lake

  • Hosted a Parents' Night Out event

  • Treated C.U.R.E. Families to a PRIVATE Taylor Swift Laser Light Show at the Rochester Museum and Science Center

  • Partnered with Morton Baptist Church to offer our Families a Fun Fall Family Day

  • Partnered with CURE Bears for Hope and Love and distributed 41 backpacks to C.U.R.E. Kids and Sibs

We are grateful for the support of our Community. Our Staff looks forward to being able to meet the needs of our Families in the final quarter of the year, where our Families tend to need extra love during the holidays. We hope you'll join us!

Resources:

Childhood Cancer Survivor Scholarship and Employment Resources:

Children's Cancer Cause is assisting childhood cancer patients, survivors and families by centralizing most national resources that provide scholarships for survivors of childhood cancer or those with particular effects. The site also has resources and advice relating to employment and applying for these scholarships.

Some opportunities require commitment to a childhood cancer advocacy project while in college, while others make you eligible for you just being you.  But you do need to apply! Be sure to read the instructions and qualifications very carefully. Apply in plenty of time to get feedback from family, guidance counselors and others. Board Member, Jacob Adams, would be happy to help if given at least two weeks’ notice. Please contact the office for his e-mail address.

GRYT Health connects patients and caregivers to others with shared experience and to information relevant to their journey.

Through the GRYT app, we’ve created a platform for people affected by cancer to connect to others with similar experiences, and to tailored information that helps our users become more aware of options specific to their needs or diagnosis – empowering them to make choices that are right for them.

Our community of patients, survivors, medical professionals, researchers and advocates across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 100 countries worldwide have participated in almost 1,000,000 interactions to date, inspiring people to live according to their own standards.

Trust from our community is paramount to our success and something we take very seriously. We never share any of our users’ information without their explicit permission. Unlike other apps, GRYT is the first social community that is funded, built, and run by patients and caregivers where users communicate anonymously in real-time and each person is 100% in charge of what happens with their data.

We are so grateful for you!

A big thank you to The Landing Strip for again hosting their helmet coloring fundraiser in loving memory of Landon Coia. There were SO many helmets colored and adorning the walls of the establishment. We are truly honored to be included in the memorialization of Landon and carrying on a legacy in his honor.

No Fouls Here. Great work, Brockport Volleyball!

Brockport Volleyball served an ACE this September in raising awareness and funds for Childhood Cancer. They raised awareness throughout the month with their custom gold t-shirts and held an awareness month game in September where we tabled and were able to watch the game!

Thanks so much for thinking of our Families!

Sprinkled with Kindness!

Shelly’s Sweet Shoppe: where smiles are made and awareness is raised!

Thank you to our Friend Shelly for offering her yummy sprinkle cookies during the month of September to raise awareness of childhood cancer and funds for C.U.R.E.! The kindness of our Community for supporting Shelly and her efforts to raise awareness are appreciated immensely! Thank you for being so sweet to our Families!

Thank you, Pinnacle School #35!

We are so grateful for our Friends at Pinnacle School #35. They conducted a Penny Drive in September for C.U.R.E. and to raise awareness during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Each classroom had a special jug to collect donations and the students wore yellow/gold to help raise awareness for our Kiddos!

We think you’re great, Pinnacle School. Thank you for making every penny count for our Families!

Untamed Kindness!

A tremendous THANK YOU to our Friends at Untamed Nutrition and 7North who raised $900 during September in honor of our Kiddos who have battled or are currently battling. Your special Childhood Cancer & Sickle Cell Crusher was a hit! The raspberry and pineapple tea was a great way to raise awareness and funds! Thank you for thinking of our Families AND raising awareness!

Raising awareness is sweet with Ridge Donut Cafe!

We just LOVED the creativity (and deliciousness) behind this one: the strawberry headlight donut with frosted animal cracker topper! It was such a hit and we are grateful for the Community’s support.

We look forward to more awareness raising (and donut eating) next year!

Please give a hand for our Volunteer of the Month….
