April 2026 Newsletter
C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association is celebrating 50 years of impact, hope, and walking alongside Families during their most difficult times. As we honor the legacy built by our Founders, Supporters & Families, we’re also preparing for an exciting future. While we take pride in how far we’ve come, we’re even more energized by what’s ahead. Big, exciting things are on the horizon—the next chapter of C.U.R.E. is just the beginning.
The starts of 2026
The start of 2026 has certainly been a whirlwind. As we are settling into our new home, we have welcomes so many into our new space. In addition to the information to the right, we have:
Invited Families for an Ice Cream for Breakfast Social
Hosted a Parents’ Night Out painting class
Shined a light on our Little Angels through offering a candle-making class for Bereaved Families
Offered a Parents’ Night Out event at LaserTron
Helped Parents meditate through a Sound Bath session
Offered emergency financial assistance to Families
Partnered with the Rochester Knighthawks and provided tickets to 100 C.U.R.E. Family members to the Cancer Awareness Game
Coordinated tickets for three Amerks games for our Families to attend
And so much more. Our support is wrapping our Families in love and helping them during their difficult days. Thank YOU for your kindness that allows for all of this to happen.
Amazon Wish List for the New Building
A tremendous thank you to everyone who has been shopping off of our Amazon Wish List. Our hearts are filled with gratitude as we settle into our new home and make it feel more like home with your kindness. We have created an Amazon Wish List for things we are discovering would be helpful in our new space. We are still working on furniture for our Family Support Area, but these items would be helpful for the other spaces. The C.U.R.E. Team has also been scouring Facebook Marketplace and has found some wonderfully generous community members.
Thank you, Genesee & Wyoming and Trillium Health!
We are thrilled to announce that our new building is officially starting to feel like home, and we owe a massive "Thank You" to two incredible community partners: Genesee & Wyoming, Inc. and Trillium Health.
Transitioning into a new space is a huge undertaking, but thanks to their combined generosity, our team is now fully equipped to continue our mission. These organizations stepped up to donate a wide array of essential office furniture, including:
Professional desks and chairs
Collaborative tables and whiteboards
Filing cabinets and storage solutions
Because of this donation, we can direct more of our resources toward our programs and the Families we serve, rather than overhead costs. We are so grateful to work alongside partners who understand the value of community and local support.
April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month
💛 To Our Heroes Behind the Scenes: Thank You.
This National Volunteer Appreciation Month, our hearts are full as we reflect on the incredible individuals who make the mission of C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association possible.
To our volunteers: You are more than just a helping hand. You are a source of comfort for a frightened Parent, a spark of joy for a Child in treatment, and the steady foundation that allows us to support Families through their darkest days.
Whether you are helping with our family programs, stuffing envelopes, organizing fundraisers, or simply showing up with a smile—you are changing lives. You give the most precious gift of all: your time and your heart.
To our past, present, and future volunteers: We see the love you pour into this community, and we are eternally grateful for you. ✨
Welcome, New Board Members!

Check out: “What I Wish I Knew…”
We are sharing a new series of YouTube videos called “What I Wish I Knew”. They will be from the perspective of Parents, Caregivers, Providers and more.
Our latest video shares what to expect in the Outpatient Clinic. Check out the video below:

Spotlight on: Avery
Meet our Friend, Avery!
Avery is a two year old who loves vehicles, animals and mac and cheese! He enjoys playing with and teaching things to his baby sister Kacie.
Avery is a snuggle bug who has been such a trooper throughout his treatment. He loves to “help” the nurses and makes friends everywhere he goes! When Avery is in the hospital, he likes to go to the Play Deck, drive race cars and play with trucks. He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in May 2025.
Introducing the Greater Rochester Cancer Alliance!
We are thrilled to share that we are a part of a new partnership in our community: The Greater Rochester Cancer Alliance (GRCA). 13thirty Cancer Connect, ACS EMPOWER, Camp Good Days and Special Times Inc., Cancer Support Community at Gilda's Club Rochester and C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association have come together to provide a more centralized and coordinated approach to cancer support services for patients, families and healthcare providers across the Greater Rochester region. Please take a look at our website, which includes a joint calendar with the programs being offered by our groups (https://bit.ly/rochestercanceralliance). This centralized, accessible hub of cancer support resources should make this experience a little easier for those in their battles and beyond. GRCA's hope is this one-stop-shop increases communication between our groups and with those we support.

C.U.R.E. Knight with the Knighthawks
We had an amazing night with the Rochester Knighthawks on March 21st! 100 C.U.R.E. Family members attended the game that was focused on raising awareness of pediatric cancer in honor of our Kids! The evening included a moment of silence that recognized some of our Warriors gone too soon and featured C.U.R.E. Kids throughout the evening as honorary Captain and ceremonial face off participants as well as through showcasing bios in the jumbotron throughout the game. The jerseys worn by the players were auctioned off with proceeds being donated to C.U.R.E. Stay tuned for a final amount!
March Parents’ Night Out -
They say you can’t pour from an empty cup, so we decided to fill ours with a little adrenaline and a lot of laughter! ⚡️
Last month, our C.U.R.E. parents took over LaserTron for a much-deserved Parents’ Night Out. Between the laser tag battles and the atmosphere, it was a night to forget the clinical charts for a while and just be... competitive!
Providing a space for our Parents to connect, decompress, and build community is at the heart of what we do. Thank you to LaserTron for hosting such a "glowing" evening!
April PNO
April Parents’ Night Out will be a relaxing introduction to yoga. We would like to bring these classes to C.U.R.E. Families on a regular basis.

We know how busy life can get, so come as you are and enjoy a relaxed night with people who "get it." Let’s make some memories (and maybe yell "BINGO!" really loud).

CANDICE’S SICKLE CELL FUND SCHOLARSHIP
Candice’s Sickle Cell Anemia Fund, Inc., is a powerful initiative founded by Candice Young-Deler, who has courageously overcome the challenges of living with Sickle Cell Disease. Inspired by her own academic journey, Candice created this scholarship to support students living with Sickle Cell who are pursuing higher education.
Each year, the fund awards $1,500 scholarships to three deserving individuals, helping ease the financial burden and recognize their resilience and determination. These scholarships not only provide financial support but also affirm the strength and potential of students facing chronic health challenges.
💡 Why It Matters:
Students with Sickle Cell often face painful health episodes that disrupt their education. This fund helps ensure that their dreams of college and career success remain within reach.

Knighthawks, you’ve stolen a PIZZA our hearts!
Our Friends at the Rochester Knighthawks organized a fantastic pizza party for some of our Families. They enjoyed getting to know the players, enjoying delicious Carraglio’s pizza and got a tour of the facility. It was a great way to connect the players to our cause and to showcase those jerseys. Seriously, they turned out so good!
Thank you for embracing our Families and showing them a fun evening!
🃏 All-In for C.U.R.E. Families! ❤️
We are sending a huge "Thank You" to our partners at New York Life for playing a winning hand for our Families!
The proceeds from their February Poker Tournament have officially been tallied, and the impact is a total "Royal Flush" for our mission. Because of the players who took a seat at the table and the team at New York Life who organized this event, we are able to continue providing essential financial and emotional support to local families navigating a childhood cancer or chronic blood disorder diagnosis.
In this journey, no Family should have to gamble on their future. Thank you, New York Life, for being "All-In" with us and ensuring our Families always have an ace up their sleeve! ♠️❤️♣️♦️
New York Beer Project are the 2025 Mac Daddy Winners!
We finally connected with New York Beer Project to crown them the cheesiest restaurant in our Liquid Gold for C.U.R.E. Challenge from Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. They embraced raising awareness in honor of our Warrior Friends and sold their mac and cheese lovin’ hearts out. A huge thank you to everyone to participates in this fun competition every year, where raising awareness is at the heart of the goal (but winning a cool Mac Daddy plaque doesn’t hurt). Now the question of the year: Will someone dethrone the multi-year champions in 2026?!
🧵 Handmade with Love! 🧵
A huge, heartfelt thank you to Jennifer Morse and our amazing homeschooled friends for their incredible kindness! These talented students spent their time crafting beautiful, custom pillowcases for our C.U.R.E. Kids, and we are absolutely blown away by their hard work!
For a child spending time in the hospital, something as simple as a bright, soft, colorful pillowcase can make a world of difference. It turns a clinical room into a cozy space and provides a literal "rest" from the challenges they face.
🌟 Why This Matters
Personal Touch: Each pillowcase is unique, just like our kids.
Comfort: Bringing a piece of "home" to the hospital bedside.
Community: Reminding our families that they are seen, loved, and supported by peers their own age.
"Kindness is like a baton—when these students create something with their hands, our kids feel that warmth whenever they lay their heads down."
Solution One is
A massive "First Star of the Game" shout-out to our friends at Solution One, Inc. for their incredible generosity!
Thanks to their donation of the Rochester Americans Suite, C.U.R.E. was able to host a very special night of fellowship. We brought together both our Survivor Families and our Bereaved Families for an evening of connection, snacks, and high-energy hockey!
In the world of childhood cancer, "community" is our strongest defense. Having a private, comfortable space allowed our Families to share stories, offer support, and cheer on the Amerks in a worry-free environment.
Thank you, Solution One, Inc., for recognizing that a night at the arena is about so much more than the score on the board—it’s about the bonds built in the stands. 🔴⚪🔵
A Power Play Win for C.U.R.E. Families! 🏒☘️
We are sending a huge "Stick Tap" to John Urlaub and our teammates at Rohrbach Brewing Company for putting C.U.R.E. in the starting lineup for the Rochester Amerks’ Irish Night on March 13th!
It was an incredible night at the arena as our families hit the ice-side for some high-energy hockey. The energy was electric, especially watching the Amerks pull off a thrilling Overtime Win! We also want to give a massive shout-out to the Rochester Americans organization. By providing a dedicated ticket link to generate funds for C.U.R.E., they’ve helped us keep our momentum moving forward.
Partnerships like these are the "MVP" of our mission. Thank you for giving so many of our families a chance to step away from the sidelines and enjoy a legendary night out! Let’s Go Amerks! 🔴⚪🔵
Bringing Comfort and "Bears" of Hope! 🧸💖
A huge, heartfelt thank you to Lynne, Randy, and CURE Bears for Hope and Love for their incredibly generous delivery of toys, cozy blankets, and special items for our C.U.R.E. Kids and Sibs!
There is something so powerful about a soft blanket or a new toy when a child is facing a long day of treatment or a sibling is waiting in the wings. These aren’t just "items"—they are reminders to our families that they are wrapped in the arms of a community that cares.
Thank you for helping us deliver smiles, one bear at a time!
A HUGE thank you to our friends at The Harley School!
We had an incredible group of student volunteers stop by the C.U.R.E. office to help us inventory all the amazing toys we have for our Kids! 🧸✨
This is a massive help as we gear up for our Survivors’ Day Picnic, ensuring every Child has something special to take home with them. We are so grateful for your hard work, organization, and community spirit.
Thank you for helping us bring smiles to our families! 💛
B-I-N-G-O! A Fabulous Night for a Great Cause
Our hearts are full! We want to send a massive, glittering Thank You to the incomparable Aggy Dune for hosting an unforgettable night of Drag Bingo.
Thanks to Aggy’s incredible energy and the generosity of everyone who attended, we raised over $2,000 for our organization!
To Aggy: Thank you for sharing your time, your talent, and your heart with us. You are a true community treasure!
To our guests: Thank you for showing up, playing hard, and giving back. We can’t wait to do it again!
April’s Advocates of the Month is…
Ziggy’s!
The team at Ziggy’s is so creative and always looking for ways to give back to the community. In December, they hosted a “Baby Shower” for Josh Allen and encouraged their patrons to contribute toys to a donation collection for C.U.R.E. (in addition to monetary donations). In March, they hosted an event for the Daytona 500 and even set up a race track with RC Cars for their patrons to utilize for fun! The funds generated at these events are so meaningful, but we also appreciate their advocacy! Spreading the word about C.U.R.E. is so essential to increasing support for our Families. Ziggy’s continues coming up with creative ways to do this!
Three cheers for Ziggy’s! We appreciate you!

Grateful Giving
Grateful Giving is a platform and mobile app that connects individual donors and businesses with nonprofits that need support to carry out their mission.
When you sign up, Grateful Giving allows individuals to automatically donate a portion of their spending to selected charities. It operates through a software platform that connects users with over 1.5 million non-profits, transforming everyday purchases into automated micro-donations to support causes. For individuals, this involves connecting a bank account or credit card to the service, which then sends a small percentage of daily spending to a chosen charity. For businesses, it can be used to give back to customers' favored causes or to make automatic donations for purchases, referrals, and birthdays, with the business paying for the donation as a thank you.
For individuals
Connect your accounts: Link your bank account or credit card to the Grateful Giving platform.
Set up giving: Choose to automatically donate a small percentage of your daily spending to a charity you care about.
Select a charity: Choose from a database of over 1.5 million 501(c)(3) charities.
For businesses
Partner with Grateful Giving:

Automate donations:
The platform makes automatic micro-donations on behalf of the business for customer purchases, referrals, or employee/customer birthdays.
Pay for the donation:

Enhance customer loyalty:

How it helps
Simplifies giving:
It makes it easy for both individuals and businesses to give to charity through automated, regular donations.

Support our mission year-round by becoming a C.U.R.E. Ambassador! A C.U.R.E. Ambassador is a donor who commits to our mission through a monthly donation of his/her choosing. Whatever level you are comfortable with makes a difference!
Embrace the Difference
Did you know that we partner with Reeds Jewelers on their Embrace the Difference campaign? With Graduations approaching, we hope you’ll consider grabbing a gift from Reeds Jewelers Embrace the Difference Collection and make a difference to our Families (all while giving a beautiful gift!).
We also have exclusive bracelets here at C.U.R.E. with our logo on them that make beautiful gifts!

More ways to help:
Hailey and her Family have been saving aluminum can tabs for C.U.R.E. for many years now. The photo is Hailey standing in an oil drum of tabs surrounded by 14 oil drums FILLED with can tabs! They bring the drums to the scrap yard and then donate the proceeds to C.U.R.E. Those proceeds are then applied to the cost of parking vouchers for our Families.
You can bring your can tabs to our office at 200 Westfall Road, 14620 during business hours and we will collect them for Hailey and her Family.
We hope you think of Hailey and her program while you are at family gatherings, picnics and other fun summer activities this summer that may include aluminum cans!
C.U.R.E. has joined the PayPal Giving Fund. Please consider adding us to your account to Shop, Donate and Raise Awareness for our families.
PayPal Giving Fund expands our fundraising reach through direct integration with PayPal, eBay and GoFundMe.
We are so grateful to the community for all of the wonderful donations we receive throughout the year. We could not service all the families we do without this generous support. If you or a community group you belong to is looking for something to do for a charity, please consider donating items from C.U.R.E.’s wish list so that we can continue to provide for our families:
