July 2026 Newsletter
C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association is celebrating 50 years of impact, hope, and walking alongside Families during their most difficult times. As we honor the legacy built by our Founders, Supporters & Families, we’re also preparing for an exciting future. While we take pride in how far we’ve come, we’re even more energized by what’s ahead. Big, exciting things are on the horizon—the next chapter of C.U.R.E. is just the beginning.
The 2nd Quarter of 2026 was full of love & support for our C.U.R.E. Families.
Families' lives were halted by a childhood cancer or chronic blood disorder diagnosis.
Our world gained two beautiful angels too soon.
C.U.R.E. distributed gift bags to Moms in honor of Mother's Day that promoted self-care
We hosted grandparents for monthly coffee hour.
Parents enjoyed 2 fun outings free of charge
Survivors celebrated end of chemo in our new bell ringing room in partnership with our friends from Renewal by Andersen!
We cut the ribbon on our new office space and have welcomed so many friends who have visited our new space, contributed to our new space and made it feel like home.
We continue to be beyond grateful for all of you, who help us support so many Families every year and have been by OUR side for FIVE decades,
Thank you, Donna!
Donna Antario has been dedicated to our organization for many years. She started as a volunteer and joined our Board of Directors in January 2023 and has been dedicated to furthering the mission of C.U.R.E. during her tenure on the Board. Whether it was sharing bubbles with our kids for Survivors’ Day or dressing up in theme at our Recipe for a C.U.R.E. Sunday Brunch, Donna has brought the fun and the support. Thank you, Donna, for everything you’ve done for C.U.R.E. over the years!
Check out: “What I Wish I Knew…”
We are sharing a new series of YouTube videos called “What I Wish I Knew”. They will be from the perspective of Parents, Caregivers, Providers and more.
Our latest video shares about self-care ideas for caregivers. Check out the video below:

Spotlight on: Ayden
Meet our Friend, Ayden!
Ayden was diagnosed with AML Leukemia in August 2025. He had 2 rounds of chemo before needing a bone marrow transplant. His 8-year-old sister was his match and his donor! Ayden is an amazing brother and son who loves baseball, swimming, and fishing. Ayden is known for showing generosity and always handing out candy to all of the other kids admitted. He makes friends with everyone he meets!
Congratulations, Tommy!
We were so excited to celebrate Tommy finishing chemo! He was joined by lots of friends and family at our office to celebrate finishing treatment and to ring the End of Chemo Bell. Thanks to the generosity of our committed partner, Renewal by Andersen, Tommy and his family were treated to a yummy meal from The Distillery (Tommy’s choice!).
“R” is for Research
Did you know the “R” in “C.U.R.E.” represents “Research”? While helping Families now, during their fight, and beyond remains a core mission at C.U.R.E., we also respect and value the research being done at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Did you know the early Founders of C.U.R.E. presented one of the first (if not THE first) microscope to Strong Memorial Hospital? The Fellows are such a vital piece of the puzzle, especially in the Pediatric Oncology Hematology Department. C.U.R.E. is honored to have presented the team with a $5,000 check to be used by the Fellowship Research Program in the Peds Heme/Onc Department to help further their work.
Hey, C.U.R.E. Parents:
Did you know we have a private Facebook Group JUST for you? Connect with other parents. Ask questions about treatment, education help and more. Learn from others.

July Candlelight Yoga Night for C.U.R.E. Parents
C.U.R.E. is now offering Yoga classes for C.U.R.E. parents and will eventually broaden the program to provide parent and child classes, virtual opportunities and more.
Yoga is highly effective for improving both physical and mental health by building strength, flexibility, and balance while reducing stress, anxiety, and chronic pain. It promotes better cardiovascular health, aids in weight management, and enhances mental clarity, sleep quality, and overall longevity.
C.U.R.E. Parents: watch program emails for sign up information to register to join us on Tuesday, July 21st from 6 PM - 7:00 PM! RSVP Required
Please contact Carol Austin if you have any further questions, carol.austin@curekidscancer.com
C.U.R.E.’s Annual Survivors’ Day Picnic
Each year, we gather with C.U.R.E. Families to host our Annual Survivors' Day Picnic, a special event dedicated to honoring the strength, resilience, and courage of these Kiddos. This joyful gathering brings survivors, their families, caregivers, volunteers, and community supporters together for a day of celebration, fellowship, and fun. Families enjoyed delicious food, games, entertainment, and meaningful opportunities to reconnect with others who have shared similar journeys. The picnic serves as a reminder that no one faces cancer alone and celebrates the hope, perseverance, and community that continue long after treatment ends. C.U.R.E.'s Annual Survivors' Day Picnic is one of our organization's most cherished traditions, recognizing every survivor's journey while inspiring hope for those still fighting.
We would like to thank the many volunteers who dedicate their time year after to this special day. We are thankful to so many different community members who make the day a memorable experience. Thank you to: 13thirty Cancer, Connect, Ahrens Benefits Co., Arlene’s Costumes, Bedford Paving, Inc., Black Bird Design, Brighton Securities, Broker’s Agency Corp., Camp Good Times, Cancer Support Community, Catching Dreams Charters, Cornerstone Wealth Management, CURE Bears for Hope & Love, Four Winds Chimney, Genetaska, Grease Paint Alley Clowns, Inga Mucha Photography, Inside Out, Mayukwa Kashiwa, MicGinny’s on the River, Molly V’s Homemade Ice Cream, Moose, Patti’s Party Balloons, Pirate Toy Fund, R.P. Thank you to all of these special people and businesses!
Coffee & Connections!
The fourth Tuesday of the month, we are hosting Grandparent Coffee Hour here at the C.U.R.E. Office. Grandparents are so heavily involved in the lives of their grandchildren. The weight of helping their child through a diagnosis and their grandchild through treatment can be heavy. We want to connect you to one another - to lean on one another - and build your village of support. We hope C.U.R.E. Grandparents will join us monthly and build connections! Let us pour into you like you pour into others! Please reach out to Carol at Carol.Austin@curekidscancer.com
Wilmot Cancer Center’s Cancer Survivors’ Night
C.U.R.E. is again offering C.U.R.E. Families (past and present) tickets to the Wilmot Cancer Center’s Cancer Survivors’ Night with the Rochester Red Wings. The game is taking place on Friday, July 31st! These tickets are available to immediate household members of C.U.R.E. Kids. Please reach out to Carol for more info (carol.austin@curekidscancer.com)
Catching Dreams & fish, too!
If any C.U.R.E. Families are interested in a morning of guided fishing, please reach out to Captain Ned at nlibrock@roadrunner.com for any dates and times for the upcoming summer and fall of 2026.
Catching Dreams Charters, Inc. a 501c3 not for profit, provides fishing adventures for children and young adults battling cancer! We create meaningful moments and memories on the waters of Western New York by “turning wishing into fishing”!
Free fishing charters are provided to patients and families. A “Dream Team” of certified Coast Guard Captains and guides offer the highest level of professionalism, safety, and ability.
These special opportunities allow kids who are battling cancer to regain a sense of normalcy in their lives, find respite from the challenges of cancer treatment and spend time learning and enjoying a new activity.
The Vertex Foundation Scholarship for SCD & TDT helps people with sickle cell disease (SCD) or transfusion-dependent beta thalassemia (TDT) and their immediate families (spouses, siblings, caregivers and children) pursue two-year, three-year, four-year or graduate degrees by offsetting some of the cost of attending college or graduate school.
CANDICE’S SICKLE CELL FUND SCHOLARSHIP
Candice’s Sickle Cell Anemia Fund, Inc., is a powerful initiative founded by Candice Young-Deler, who has courageously overcome the challenges of living with Sickle Cell Disease. Inspired by her own academic journey, Candice created this scholarship to support students living with Sickle Cell who are pursuing higher education.
Each year, the fund awards $1,500 scholarships to three deserving individuals, helping ease the financial burden and recognize their resilience and determination. These scholarships not only provide financial support but also affirm the strength and potential of students facing chronic health challenges.
💡 Why It Matters:
Students with Sickle Cell often face painful health episodes that disrupt their education. This fund helps ensure that their dreams of college and career success remain within reach.

Short Stacks, Big Hearts!
Thank you to the incredible Gottfried crew for choosing to support C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association through their 2nd Annual Flapjack Fundraiser and their fundraiser at Compass Cycle + Flow! Together, these events raised funds for several amazing organizations, including C.U.R.E.!
This year, these inspiring kiddos stood up to cancer: Jonas, Raquel, Sophia, Mya, Londyn, Katherine, Toni, and Eleanor. Their compassion, leadership, and dedication to giving back remind us that you're never too young to make a big impact. Thank you Gottfried Crew for making making a difference for others!💛🎗️
Thank You Lynne & Randy!
A heartfelt thank you to Lynne and Randy from CURE Bears for Hope and Love for once again filling our toy room with joy! Several times each year, they arrive with carloads of toys that are used for bell ringings, the holidays, survivors day and more!
This latest delivery included everything from Barbies and Hot Wheels sets to games, crafts, and so much more. Their generosity helps us keep our toy room stocked year-round.
Lynne and Randy, thank you for your unwavering kindness and for reminding our Families that they are surrounded by a community that truly cares. We are so grateful for all you do!
Thank you, VP Supply Corp…
for hosting an un-fore-gettable golf tournament. C.U.R.E. was incredibly humbled to be one of three recipients of proceeds from the annual Elliot Curwin Golf International. It was great hearing about Delphi Rise and Go Beyond, two organizations committed to our community. We were blown away by the kindness of the participants. Thank you to the wonderful team at VP Supply Corp for planning such a tee-rific day. What a beautiful tribute to Elliot Curwin!
ROC Strong Club, you are shore-ly the best!
Thank you Coach Mike for including C.U.R.E. in your Greatest Charity Workout again this year. We loved being included and what a fun theme! Thank you for hosting this sun-sational time and for raising awareness and funds for C.U.R.E. We are sea-riously grateful to have such a fantastic advocate and friend. Thank you for all you do for our community, especially C.U.R.E. and our Families!
Thank you, McAlpin Family…
You really poured your hearts into helping us support local Families through your Lemonade Stand!
A total of $120 was generated to help support our mission and our Families! Well done, team! It is so meaningful to our organization when children rally behind our cause. Thank you for being so sweet and caring about the Families we support.
Henry Layne Quotes for a Cause…
…was such a success! A total of $290 was raised through Henry Layne Insurance Company’s “Quotes for a Case” campaign where they made a donation for every insurance quote generated when an individual mentioned C.U.R.E. That’s just shy of raising enough money for a gas card for three newly diagnosed Families. C.U.R.E. issues a $100 gas gift card to every newly diagnosed Family in our comfort bags. YOU are amazing. Thank you so much for setting such a great example for Layne and for letting our Families know they are not alone!
Thor Promotions really revs it up for C.U.R.E.
Thor Promotions hosted TWO awesome car shows in the month of June to raise funds for C.U.R.E. The Hamlin Wheelfest Show drew a great crowd, as did the Father’s Day Car Show at the Shops on West Ridge. Father’s Day had a total of nearly 100 cars come out to show off! A total of $224 was collected in our donation jug that day. A final check will be presented after the final show at Walker Fire Department on September 19th. Who else will be there?! We’re excited! Thank you again, Marty and all the generous sponsors!
Sewn with Love!
A heartfelt thank you to Jennifer Morse and her daughters for sharing their time, talent, and kindness by creating and donating a beautiful collection of handmade pillowcases for the children we serve.
From colorful characters to fun, kid-friendly patterns, each pillowcase was thoughtfully made to bring comfort and a little extra joy to children during their hospital stay. These special gifts will be shared with kiddos at the hospital, offering something soft, cheerful, and uniquely theirs during a difficult time.
Jennifer and family, thank you for stitching love into every pillowcase and for helping us brighten the days of local children and families.
Garden Volunteers
We are looking for helpers who can lovingly tend to our Children’s Memorial Garden. Our new space at 103 White Spruce Boulevard has a LOT of garden space that needs some attention. We have beautiful flower beds that we need help maintaining, as well as keeping the space lining the Memorial Brick Walkway. This space is dedicated to our Angels and we want it to be peaceful and beautiful throughout the summer and fall. Your help is so appreciated!
Say Cheese!
We are looking for local photographers who would be willing to donate their time occasionally to photograph our End of Chemo Bell Ringings in the office. Grateful Giving
Grateful Giving is a platform and mobile app that connects individual donors and businesses with nonprofits that need support to carry out their mission.
When you sign up, Grateful Giving allows individuals to automatically donate a portion of their spending to selected charities. It operates through a software platform that connects users with over 1.5 million non-profits, transforming everyday purchases into automated micro-donations to support causes. For individuals, this involves connecting a bank account or credit card to the service, which then sends a small percentage of daily spending to a chosen charity. For businesses, it can be used to give back to customers' favored causes or to make automatic donations for purchases, referrals, and birthdays, with the business paying for the donation as a thank you.
For individuals
Connect your accounts: Link your bank account or credit card to the Grateful Giving platform.
Set up giving: Choose to automatically donate a small percentage of your daily spending to a charity you care about.
Select a charity: Choose from a database of over 1.5 million 501(c)(3) charities.
For businesses
Partner with Grateful Giving:
The business pays a subscription fee to use the platform.
Automate donations:
The platform makes automatic micro-donations on behalf of the business for customer purchases, referrals, or employee/customer birthdays.
Pay for the donation:
The business pays for the donation as a way to thank customers or employees and support social good.
Enhance customer loyalty:
Businesses can align with causes their customers care about, increasing loyalty and customer retention.
How it helps
